EDU 1204: Teaching Methodology
(3 Credits)This course introduces female student-teachers to a variety of effective teaching methods and classroom strategies that support learning across different subjects. It emphasizes lesson preparation, delivery techniques, questioning skills, and classroom interaction, while paying special attention to creating inclusive and supportive environments for female learners. The course equips future women teachers with the skills to design engaging lessons, adapt methods to meet diverse learner needs, and serve as role models in schools and communities where women’s participation in education is essential.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, female student-teachers will be able to:
- Explain the principles and purposes of different teaching methods and their application in secondary education.
- Plan and design effective lesson plans that align with curriculum goals and diverse learner needs.
- Demonstrate the use of varied instructional strategies such as lecture, discussion, group work, demonstration, and inquiry-based learning.
- Apply questioning techniques, classroom interaction skills, and strategies that promote critical thinking and active participation.
- Adapt teaching methods to support inclusive classrooms, with sensitivity to gender, cultural, and contextual challenges in Somalia.
- Integrate teaching aids, technology, and local resources to enhance teaching and learning.
- Reflect on their teaching practice to improve personal effectiveness and contribute to positive learning environments.
