NS1101: Anatomy and Physiology
NS1101: Anatomy and Physiology
(4 Credits)Course Description:
This course provides an in-depth study of human anatomy and physiology, emphasizing the integration of structure and function and their interrelationship between body systems. It is designed for nursing students, offering clinically relevant knowledge that forms the foundation for understanding pathophysiology and necessary for future nursing courses.
Course Objectives:
On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Describe the basic structure and function of the human body.
- Identify and describe the major body systems and their components.
- Explain the interrelationship between body systems in maintaining homeostasis.
- Apply anatomical and physiological knowledge to understand normal body processes.
- Relate basic concepts of anatomy and physiology to clinical situations in nursing practice.
- Demonstrate foundational knowledge required for understanding pathophysiology and providing quality nursing care.
Required Materials:
- Textbooks Marieb, E.N., & Hoehn, K. (2022). Human Anatomy & Physiology (12th ed.). and Ross, J., & Wilson, A. (2018). Anatomy and Physiology in Health and Illness.
- Multimedia resources: animations, videos, interactive simulations for body systems
- Lecture handouts, slides.
Laboratory & Practical Materials
- Dissection kits or models (skeletal, muscular, organ systems)
