NS1102: Medical Terminology

Course Description:

This course introduces the language of medicine with emphasis on the correct pronunciation, spelling, and meaning of medical terms. Students will learn the word roots, prefixes, and suffixes used to describe anatomical structures, diseases, diagnostic procedures, and treatments. The course develops the ability to accurately interpret and use medical language in nursing documentation, communication, and patient education.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

1. Define common prefixes, suf fixes, and combining forms used in medical terminology.
2. Accurately pronounce and spell medical terms.
3. Analyze and construct medical terms related to body systems.
4. Apply medical terminology in nursing documentation and patient records.
5. Interpret common abbreviations used in healthcare settings.
