NS1203: Fundamentals of Nursing II
(4 Credits)Course Description:
This course provides nursing students with foundational knowledge and core clinical skills required for safe and effective practice. It introduces the nursing process as a framework for care, while focusing on patient safety, infection prevention, basic health assessment, communication, and essential nursing procedures. Through classroom learning, skills laboratory, and initial clinical exposure, students develop competence in delivering holistic, patient-centered care that meets fundamental human needs across various health care settings.
Course Objectives
By the end of the course, students will be able:
- Apply the nursing process in providing care to patients.
- Demonstrate fundamental nursing skills, including hygiene, mobility, and comfort measures.
- Demonstrate competence in essential nursing skills to meet patients’ basic needs.
- Apply infection prevention and safety principles in all clinical settings.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
- Maintain professional and ethical standards in patient care and Document nursing interventions accurately.

Skills Laboratory & Clinical Materials:
- Nursing skills checklists and procedure manuals.
- Basic clinical equipment (thermometer, sphygmomanometer, stethoscope, syringes, IV models, etc.).
- IV arms, injection pads, and other skill lab equipment
- Standard infection prevention kits (gloves, masks, gowns).
- Bed-making kits, hygiene kits, and patient comfort materials
- Videos demonstrating procedures (medication administration, hygiene care)
