NS1205: Pathology
(2 Credits)Course Description:
This course provides nursing students with a foundational understanding of general pathology, emphasizing the mechanisms of disease, cell and tissue injury, inflammation, repair, hemodynamic and immune disorders, infections, neoplasia, and hematologic conditions. It integrates theoretical knowledge with clinical nursing applications, preparing students to identify, assess, and plan appropriate nursing care for patients with common pathological conditions.
Course Objectives
By the end of the course, students will be able:
- Understand fundamental pathological concepts including cell injury, inflammation, tissue repair, and hemodynamic disorders.
- Describe immunopathology, infection mechanisms, and neoplastic processes relevant to nursing practice.
- Identify common blood, cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, renal, endocrine, and nervous system disorders and explain their pathophysiology.
- Apply pathology knowledge to clinical scenarios, including assessment, planning, and nursing interventions.
- Integrate theoretical and practical knowledge to improve patient care, safety, and outcomes.
- Develop critical thinking and decision-making skills in evaluating pathological conditions and their impact on nursing care.

- Textbooks Harsh Mohan – Textbook of Pathology (8th or 9th Edition) – widely used for nursing and Robbins & Cotran – Basic Pathology (10th Edition) – simple version of Robbins, good for nursing.
- Laboratory & Practical Requirements
- Microscopes (light microscope).
- Prepared histopathology slides and Specimens/Jars
- Clinical case records linking lab results with pathology.
- Atlas of histology & pathology pictures for practice.
