(6 Credits)Course Description:
Clinical Practice III in the final semester is designed to integrate all previous learning, providing hands-on experience in community/public health and optional mental health settings, preparing diploma students for safe and competent nursing practice upon graduation.
Course Objectives
By the end of the clinical practice, students will be able to:
- Apply public and community health nursing principles.
- Conduct basic community assessments and identify health needs.
- Plan, implement, and evaluate health promotion and preventive care.
- Demonstrate professional, ethical, and culturally sensitive behavior.
- Integrate mental health knowledge through practice, case studies, or simulations.
- Support patients and families with education and psychosocial care.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
- Document care accurately while maintaining safety and infection control.
- Apply the nursing process in holistic patient care.
Clinical Practicum III – Rotations and Student Activities.
- Psychiatric / Mental Health Nursing Practicum Centers: Psychiatric Ward
- Admit and discharge patients.
- Observe acute psychosis, mood disorders, substance withdrawal cases.
- Administer and monitor psychiatric medications.
- Educate patients/families on medication adherence.
- Document patient progress and behavior.
- Practice therapeutic communication & de-escalation techniques.
- Pediatric Units
General Pediatrics Ward, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) if available, Pediatric Surgery and Pediatric Outpatient Clinics
Newborn Care Activities and Pediatric Care Activities
- Perform basic newborn assessments (weight, vital signs, Apgar if observed)
- Assist with bathing, diapering, cord care, and temperature maintenance.
- Monitor feeding and elimination patterns
- Observe for signs of distress or complications.
- Assess pediatric patients’ vital signs.
- Observe and assist in growth monitoring (weight/height of children).
- Assist children with feeding, hygiene, and mobility.
- Provide comfort and support for procedures (e.g., injections, medication)
- Educate families on illness prevention, nutrition, and safety.
