This course provides an overview of the midwifery profession, its historical background, philosophy, and role in maternal and newborn care. Students will gain foundational knowledge in anatomy and physiology related to reproduction, understand the basic principles of antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care, and explore the legal, ethical, and cultural issues that influence midwifery practice.
Course Objectives:
By the end of the course, the student should be able to:
- Explain the philosophy and scope of midwifery practice.
- Describe the historical development of midwifery locally and globally.
- Identify the roles and responsibilities of the midwife.
- Understand basic reproductive anatomy and physiology.
