MW 2101: Normal labor
(4 Credits)Course Description
This course provides in-depth knowledge and practical skills related to the physiological process of normal labor. Students will explore the stages of labor, mechanisms, maternal and fetal monitoring, pain management, and immediate postpartum care. Emphasis is placed on evidence-based midwifery/nursing care, effective communication, and respectful maternity care practices.
Course Objectives
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- Describe the physiological and anatomical processes involved in normal labor.
- Identify the stages and phases of labor and their characteristics.
- Explain the mechanism of labor and delivery.
- Monitor and assess maternal and fetal well-being during labor.
- Apply pain management strategies in labor.
- Demonstrate appropriate clinical decision-making and respectful care during normal labor.
