COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course offers a comprehensive study of common and significant gynecological disorders affecting women’s reproductive health. It focuses on the etiology, pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, management, and prevention of gynecological conditions. Students will gain knowledge and clinical reasoning skills necessary to assess, manage, and educate patients experiencing gynecological problems. Topics include menstrual disorders, infections, benign and malignant tumors, infertility, pelvic pain, and endometriosis. Emphasis is placed on evidence-based care, patient education, psychosocial support, and interdisciplinary management.
Course Objectives:
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- Describe the anatomy and physiology of the female reproductive system and how it relates to gynecological disorders.
- Identify the signs, symptoms, and diagnostic criteria of common gynecological conditions.
- Explain the pathophysiology of disorders such as PCOS, endometriosis, fibroids, STIs, and gynecologic cancers.
- Develop appropriate nursing or medical management plans, including pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments.
- Demonstrate effective communication and patient education regarding reproductive health and disease prevention.
- Recognize when to refer patients for specialized care or surgical intervention.
- Apply cultural sensitivity and empathy in addressing gynecological issues that may be sensitive or stigmatized.
