EDU 2408: Teaching Practice (Practicum)
(6 Credits)Course Description
This practicum provides female student-teachers with an opportunity to integrate and apply the pedagogical theories, subject knowledge, and teaching skills acquired throughout the Diploma in Education program. Students will engage in classroom teaching under the guidance of experienced mentor teachers and university supervisors. The practicum emphasizes lesson planning, classroom management, instructional delivery, assessment of learners, and reflective practice. It is particularly designed for the Somali educational context, where resources are often limited, and many female teachers are deployed in rural schools.
Course Objectives
By the end of the course, female student-teachers will be able to:
- Prepare and deliver structured, engaging, and learner-centered lessons.
- Apply principles of classroom management in diverse and resource-limited contexts.
- Use appropriate teaching methods, materials, and technologies.
- Develop and use assessment tools to measure student learning.
- Reflect on their teaching experiences and improve their practice.
- Demonstrate professionalism, ethical conduct, and gender-sensitive teaching.
- Collaborate effectively with mentor teachers, supervisors, and peers.
- Integrate theory with practice to meet the educational needs of Somali learners.
