EDU 2305 : Measurement and Evaluation in Education
(3 Credits)Course Description
This course equips student-teachers with the knowledge and skills necessary to measure and evaluate learning effectively. It covers principles of validity and reliability, test construction, item formats, alternative assessments, and test analysis. The course emphasizes using assessment results to inform teaching and learning in Somali schools, with special attention to challenges faced by female teachers and diverse learners in resource-limited settings.
Course Objectives
By the end of the course, female student-teachers will be able to:
- Differentiate between measurement, assessment, and evaluation.
- Explain the role of measurement in instructional decision-making.
- Develop instructional objectives using Bloom’s taxonomy.
- Construct valid and reliable classroom assessments.
- Design different test items suited for various learning outcomes.
- Apply alternative assessment methods, including portfolios and performance tasks.
- Conduct item analysis and interpret results.
- Use assessment findings to improve teaching and learning.
