(3 Credits)Course Description: Human geography is a broad field that studies the relationships between people and places in the world we inhabit. In this course, students gain an awareness and respect for the interactions between people and places through the fundamental topics of globalization, development, urbanization, diversity, inequality, role of women in development. This course introduces students to essential topics in Human Geography. The course teaches students to appreciate and understand areas, their populations, and society. Patterns of social, economic, and cultural diversity and distinction are analyzed in terms of national, international, and local contexts.
Course objectives
By the end of this course, students should successfully be able to:
- Define the concept of Human geography
- Analyze patterns of population growth and decline, and their implications for societies.
- Explore the relationship between ethnicity, cultural identity, and access to care and resources
- Investigate the spatial patterns of agriculture and food production, and their impact on local and global economies.
- Assess the geographical distribution of industries and their role in economic development and urbanization.
- Analyze the characteristics and functions of urban and rural settlements and their development over time.
- Discuss the contributions of women to development and the challenges they face in various cultural contexts.
