- Course Description: This course covers the overall geography of Somalia. By the completion of the course, students should have a solid understanding of the physical landscapes, people population, and environmental issues that are distinctive to various Somali areas. Course topics include physical geography of Somalia, terrain, rivers, mountains, plains, plateaus, climate of Somalia, environmental problems (degradations), Somalia’s economy, and population dynamics.
- Course Objectives
By the end of this course, students should successfully be able to:
- Describe the key physical landscapes of Somalia, including terrain types such as mountains, plains, plateaus, and rivers.
- Examine the climate of Somalia and its impact on the environment and human activities.
- Identify and assess the major environmental problems facing Somalia, including land degradation and resource depletion.
- Analyze the population distribution, demographics, and cultural diversity of the Somali people.
- Understand the economic activities in Somalia, including agriculture, fishing, and trade, and their relationship with geographical features.
- Encourage awareness of how Somalia’s geographical and environmental challenges relate to broader global issues, such as climate change and sustainable development.
- Foster critical thinking by evaluating case studies related to geography and environmental issues in Somalia.
