GEO2410 : Geographical Information System and Remote Sensing

Course Description: This course examines the broad geography of Africa. By the completion of the course, students should be able to exhibit understanding of physical landscapes, human population, and environmental issues specific to different regions of Africa. Course Content: Physical geography of Africa, landscape, rivers, lakes, mountains, plains, plateaus, deserts, general climate of Africa; types of climates found in Africa, human occupations of Africa, environmental problems (degradations) of Africa, economics of Africa, basic geographic concepts of each sub-region in Africa, former languages spoken in Africa, population, and culture of Africa.

1. Course Objectives

By the end of this course, students should successfully be able to:

1. Describe the physical landscapes of Africa, including major rivers, lakes, mountains, plains, plateaus, and deserts.
2. Identify and explain the various climate types found across different regions of Africa and their impact on human activities.
3. Examine the various human occupations in Africa and how they are influenced by the continent’s geography.
4. Analyze the economic systems and activities in different regions of Africa, including agriculture, industry, and trade.
5. Explore basic geographic concepts and characteristics specific to each sub-region of Africa.
