(4 Credits)Course Description:
This course introduces students to the history, philosophy, and fundamental concepts of nursing. Focus on the evolution of nursing, key nursing theories, professional roles, ethics, and the nursing process. Students will gain a foundation to understand the profession’s development and apply basic concepts in clinical practice.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Describe the historical development of nursing as a profession.
- Identify key figures and milestones in the history of nursing.
- Explain the roles and responsibilities of a professional nurse.
- Identify key nursing theories and models and their application in practice.
- Demonstrate understanding of the nursing process and fundamental nursing concepts.
- Accurately measure, record, and interpret vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.
- Recognize abnormal findings in vital signs and report them appropriately.
- Recognize ethical principles and professional standards in nursing practice.
