NS1204: Nutrition and Dietetics
(2 Credits)Course Description:
This course enables students to acquire knowledge of nutritional elements and needs of persons across their lifespan. Emphasis is placed on the role of nurses in assessing nutritional status, planning balanced diets, and providing dietary education. Special focus is given to nutrition in illness, therapeutic diets, and culturally appropriate food practices.
Course Objectives
By the end of the course, students will be able:
- Explain the basic concepts and principles of nutrition.
- Identify macro- and micronutrients, their functions, and food sources.
- Assess the nutritional needs of healthy individuals and patients with specific conditions.
- Apply principles of diet planning for various age groups and health conditions.
- Provide patient education on healthy eating habits and dietary modifications.
