PHY 2405: Laboratory and ICT Integration into Physics
PHY 2405: Laboratory and ICT Integration into Physics
(4 Credits)Course Description
This course feeds teacher trainees with both practical laboratory skills and the capacity to use ICT in physics instruction. The first eight weeks are dedicated to hands-on experiments with genuine laboratory instruments based on the Somali secondary curriculum and the High School Physics Lab Manual. Students acquire efficient methods for measuring, analyzing, and reporting experimental data. The following seven weeks focus on incorporating ICT into physics instruction via simulating experiments with tools such as PhET, Crocodile Physics, and Algodoo, especially when physical laboratories are unavailable. This hybrid method prepares creative, technology-enhanced physics instructors to offer interesting courses in a variety of settings.
Course Objectives
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- Use physics lab equipment safely and accurately.
- Conduct experiments with mechanics, thermodynamics, optics, waves, and electricity.
- Analyze and interpret experimental results, including error estimation.
- Use ICT tools such as PhET, Crocodile Physics, and Algodoo to mimic physics experiments.
- Integrate both actual and virtual experiments into successful lesson ideas.
- Adapt training to situations in which physical laboratories are unavailable.
- Create microteaching classes that combine practical and digital experimentation.
