The Diploma in Biology and Chemistry Education is designed to respond the current challenges and demands for the Somali society. Therefore, the program integrates disciplinary knowledge, laboratory practice, and pedagogy within a compact two-year structure. By producing well-rounded, practice-ready graduates capable of teaching both biology and Chemistry, the program strengthens the quality of science education, enhances equity in teacher deployment, and contributes to sustainable human capital development in the region.

Overall Goal of the Program

The goal of the Diploma in Biology and Chemistry Education is to prepare qualified student teachers with strong subject mastery and pedagogical skills to teach Biology and Chemistry effectively, integrate science and technology in learning, support learners with special educational needs, and cultivate the capacity for further studies and lifelong learning.

Specific Objectives of the Program

the end of the two-year Biology and Chemistry course the student teacher should be able to:

1.     Use appropriate Biological and Chemistry knowledge and skills in everyday life

2.     Apply skills for teaching and learning Biology and Chemistry through the use of various basic experiments and other hands-on activities

3.     Demonstrate attitude, knowledge and skills in dealing effectively and efficiently with crosscutting issues

4.     Analyze academic and pedagogical content of Biology and Chemistry subject Conduct action research in the teaching and learning of Biology and Chemistry

5.     Apply appropriate pedagogical skills to learner including those with special education needs.

6.     Use basic skills in measurement, assessment and evaluation

7.     Upgrade academic knowledge in Biology subject.

Admission Requirement

1.     Completion of secondary education

2.     Female applicants only.

3.     Demonstrated interest in teaching biology and chemistry at the secondary level
